Tipper
Tipper vans are often used by those in the construction or landscaping industry to transport raw or waste materials. With a hinged tailgate, these vans are simple to load. However, their name comes from how they unload. A ram is fixed to the bottom of the flat-bed, near the cab, which, when extended, lifts the loading area so that materials quickly spill out onto the floor. Many modern models of these vans are made of lightweight materials to ensure maximum load capacity.
Benefits of a Tipper
Tippers are perfect for loading and unloading large quantities of loose materials, like sand, gravel or turf. They can manage the load weight and provide an easy, quick and simple method of unloading the materials in the desired area.
Dropside
Ford Transit Dropside vans look similar to tippers, however, their loading and unloading function is different. Rather than using a ram arm to lift the loading area, all of the side and tail panels are on hinges so that materials can be loaded and unloaded from every side of the van. Without the hydraulic arm, these vans can typically carry larger load weights than tippers.
The Benefits of a Dropside
As they can carry larger loads, dropside vans are more suited to construction professionals or civil engineers carrying bulkier items. Larger, heavier and more substantial goods – like engines, generators, steel rods or large tools – can be loaded and unloaded using the hinged panels with greater ease and the van will be able to handle the heavier loads.
